Historical outlines
Already the Phoenician and the Greek, knew this island, but the first lover of Capri was August that visiting it in the 29 b.C., he purchased it from the city of Naples in exchange for the island of Ischia. Its prosperity reached the apex with Tiberio that built 12 villas. After the decline of the Roman Empire of West, Capri suffered the Saracen raids, Byzantine and Longobard. After the monarchies Angioine and Aragonese gave a decisive impulse to the development of the island.
