MASSA LUBRENSE

Almost to the extremity of Sorrento peninsula, rises Massa Lubrense all open toward the sea and with a long cliff. It offers naturalistic walks among ancient hamlets, trees of lemons, secular olive trees, on the background of beautiful views. It is an equipped tourist center, with his indented and rocky coast, in many points inaccessible from earth.  

Historical outlines:  
The southern coasts of Massa Lubrense and the islets that face it (Vetara and Li Galli) they were, according to the legend, the abode of the mythical Sirens from which the primitive place-name of Sirenusion. It is here that Ulisse, after having listened to their song he would has landed and he would has founded the famous temple of Athena. The first inhabitants of this area were probably two tribes of Italic origin: the Ausonians and the Oscans. Of the latter has been found in rock inscriptions discovered a few years ago on the eastern side of Punta Campanella. After alternate conquests, Spanish, Bourbon, French and Turks it entered, in the IXX sec. to belong to the Partenopea Republic.
